CSA or Community Supported Agriculture is a part of the
modern organic and local “movement” that is really about a fresher, healthier, and sustainable way of growing
and buying food—without long distance transportation and other costs.
Community Supported Agriculture groups,
or CSA's, allow consumers to develop a relationship with a farm to know where their food comes from and how it is grown
and harvested. The CSA farm offers a subscription, where buyers receive a weekly basket of produce, delivered soon after it
is picked.
By
making a financial commitment to a farm, people become "members" (or "subscribers") of the CSA. This provides
the needed financial backing to make this sort of healthy, small-scale farming possible.
